PROJECTS

Poverty Alleviation and Sustainable Eco-Village Project
A Holistic Approach

sustainabilityAFRICA is working in villages
in Tala-Kithimani sub-location, Machakos
District, Kenya. Tala-Kithimani is situated
about 60 Km. to the eastern side of Nairobi.
It covers a geographical area of about 20
Km2. with an estimated current population
of about 6,000 which is steadily growing.
The majority of the people survive and live
from subsistence farming, casual labour,
stone mining and self employment in small
businesses. Unemployment is high and most
households survive on as little as US$ 30 per
month while some in small businesses can earn
as much as US$ 200- 300 per month,depending
on the nature of their work. The people usually
spend their hard earned money on their basic
needs, food, water, fuel, rent, medicines, clothes
and transport.
